Answers:

The New Zealand First Party has voted to try to introduce a new law that will require immigrants to New Zealand to agree to a set of core values.

If enacted the Respecting New Zealand Values Bill would require new immigrants to sign a document agreeing to respect gender equality, sexual diversity, freedom of religion, and to understand that alcohol is legal here.

Proponents of the bill say that they are worried some new immigrants to New Zealand do not respect the rights of other New Zealanders and hope that introducing this document will help to ensure social harmony.

Opponents of the bill feel that it is not necessary because human rights are enshrined in New Zealand law, so the opinions of different groups of people are not a threat.
