New Planes for the Air Force

Story

Since the government’s budget was released two weeks ago, the news has been full of stories about how New Zealand is affected by these changes.

While the main focus has been on promoting mental health, the government has also allocated a large amount of money to defence and transport. Twenty billion dollars has been allocated to defence over the next eleven years, and 2.1 billion dollars has been allocated to the development of transport over two years, with a focus on rail.

One billion dollars has been allocated to the Air Force to buy new planes. Currently New Zealand has five C130H planes known as Hercules, which are over fifty years old. The new planes will be known as Super Hercules.

As well as replacing planes, the Defence Force will also increase the number of people in the Army, buy other military vehicles and vessels, and increase surveillance and cyber security.
