This week, from 26 to 30 March, the Māoriland Film Festival will be held in Ōtaki in the Kāpiti Coast District. This film festival is an annual celebration of indigenous films from around the world. This year is its 12th year.

The festival will show more than 100 films – feature films and short films – from 86 indigenous nations. It will open with a new Māori film, Kōkā, and will continue the following day with the world premiere of Shrek, Kātahi Te Korokē. This is the te reo Māori version of the Dreamworks’ movie Shrek. There will be movies of all genres, including horror, drama, comedy, documentary, and animation. For more information, visit the Māoriland Film Festival website.

Other movies that have been released in te reo Māori include Moana and Moana 2, Frozen, and The Lion King.
