Technology in schools

Orewa High School in Auckland expects all year 9 students next year to have their own iPad, netbook or other mobile device like a Smart phone. The school says the most suitable is the iPad which costs between $800 and $1,000. The reason that the school wants students to have their own device is that there are not enough computers in the school for everybody.

Although Orewa is the first high school to want students to have their own electronic device, the school thinks that within five years most schools will be copying them. Orewa is a decile 9 school. The highest decile is 10 and that means many people living in that area are quite wealthy. The lowest decile is 1. People in that area have low pay.

Some private schools expect their students to have a laptop computer but Orewa is not a private school. It is a state school. Orewa says the problem with laptops is that their battery life is short whereas the battery of an iPad will last all day. Laptops also create a barrier between the student and the teacher – it is hard for the teacher to see what the students are doing. The iPad has many applications which students could use.

In today’s world, technology is important and students need to access information from the internet and record their work on their own device. This will also make it easier for students to share their learning with other students. The school says they are preparing students for work in a changing world.

  1. That’s so good. But I think that still have many problems. For example “money”. The school think that all students can buy iPad ???

  2. Is there a list of parents needing iPads for their child
If so I could have one for sale 5months old half
    Price

  3. From my point of view, the ipad is not useful to do activities in the school, we remember that the principal program in which work is Microsoft Office. Office is the standard brand, for example when a person make a complex table in word. If you want to import your microsoft document to “iwork” that have iPad, some things as graphics do not got imported suitably, it is a ENORMOUS PROBLEM that does not allow to work.

I think that the better form to suggest something about the technology is to know how it works. In my opinion, I recommend that a computer is much better, in this case, the people that go to school, the computer is very easy to transport in a backpack and does not take much space, and is excellent to carry: is the MINI NOTEBOOK HP, why take this election, because You can do or create anything, and install any program. Generally when you go to school: University or High School all programs in that you work are designed on the plataform that have potency it seems much more like a computer, because this is the objective that this program runs on a computer.

I recommend a MINI NOTEBOOK because it is a COMPUTER and for previous features that I told to You, and the price is VERY LOW.
I think is not a problem to recharge the battery when it necessary.

Finally, how you realized in the school is better to use a COMPUTER. The other technologies such as a iPad are for simple applications as more toward entertainment, read news, read ebooks, e-mail, etc. but notfor formal work, seriously.

Greetings to the Madam that write this blog, from Mexico !!!.

  4. Do you think students in the future will be able to write by hand?

we remember to think: to accept the things that are more functional, but why is the functional, the things that do not quit the correct principles, for example, one thing that is important to learn is: when you are beginning to learn how to write correctly using all fingers on a computer, for this case you need a lesson about “Mecanografía” -typing-, this is essential to write fast, and this characteristic will be useful for all your life, through using the PC keyborad, you get to achieve the goal. I’m sure that no touchscreen can to replace the keyboard.

Perhaps the principle “by hand” can be applicable in the future, this way: the students could write using a stylus all time when the computers do not transmit much light, much irradiation and the light does not damage the eyes absolutely nothing.

No technology can to replace “write by hand”, the principal problem that focus here is: the eyes not endure the light for much time, it can produce: red eyes, and the insupportable idea of to quit the computer. now think if the person uses the computer as a note book from childhood, that person can develop eyestrain.

The note book for the moment is the better solution to write and to do exercises, the computer is not bad; it is the complement. Now if you want to use the computer remember: if you feel tired, rest your eyes.

Good afternoon to the Madam that write this blog !!!
    Good afternoon from Mexico.

  5. Yes, I´m sure that the students will be able to write by hand because the paper is more useful, for example, people when buy or fill out something it is necesary to write. In the banks it is necessary the paper and write by hand.

I think the idea when the people will not use the paper and the first thing that I think is: incredible and surprising, as a science fiction, but perhaps someday, pasando millions and millions of years, the paper will disappear.

  6. To the Madam that write this blog, I consider that the section questions and vocabulary written below the text are completely useful, we remember that this blog is ESL. This blog truly shows how people speaking english.

Thanks to the Madam that write this blog, my sincere appreciation, from Mexico !!!.

  7. It’s a very interesting lecture because we greatly influence students, both for comfort and improved many of the jobs that could be performed using technological devices and improving day by day our work and projects.

  8. WELL I DO NOT THINK THAT THESE TECHNOLOGIES ARE DEMANDED FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES NEEDED TO BUY THESE PRODUCTS FOR YOUTH.

  9. this method would improve people wanting to study since this method enables us proficiency in each subject, we could study from our homes and so have the opportunity and continue to learn more about the technology

  10. THIS IS INTERESTING FOR U.S. OPINION ON THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE NEW ERA OF STUDENTS AS THEY FEEL MORE INTERESTED TO STUDY BUT Also keep in mind that this will distract the students because they will feel more independent of teachers and LIFELONG LEARNING TEACHER STUDENT WAS OKAY we want to change and develop.

But we have ENCUENTA THIS IS A DAY TO DAY AND NOT ALL PEOPLE HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO ACCESS THESE NEW TECHNOLOGIES AS THEY never stop to develop and every day goes to market new products and more expensive.

HOW do you think a person feels like studying HAVE AND WHICH CAN NOT ACCESS THIS BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE LATEST EQUIPMENT FAILURE TO LEARN? WHERE WILL BE TEACHERS?

  11. I do not think that this is so because there are many people who can not buy such expensive things that their parents do not have good economic capacity.
