Paralympics

The Paralympics start in Paris this Wednesday, 28 August (or Thursday 29 August in New Zealand). The Paralympics are for athletes with disabilities. New Zealand has 25 athletes going to these games, competing in eight para sports, including para swimming, para cycling, and para athletics.

You can watch the Paralympics live on TVNZ+, or each evening on TVNZ1, from 29 August to 9 September.

Vocabulary

disability – a physical or mental condition, which makes it difficult for someone to do some things that most people can do (Notice the prefix dis-, which shows an opposite or negative, and the word ability)
