Helen Clark gives up

First listen to Helen Clark and the UN.

Helen Clark today congratulated Portugal’s former Prime Minister Antonio Guterres who is now the favourite to become the United Nations Secretary-General. Helen Clark was 5th out of 10 people in the vote held today.

She said that she and Mr Guterres were long time colleagues when they were both Prime Ministers and both worked for the United Nations. More recently he has been the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and has worked hard to get more countries to take refugees.

Although many people thought it was time for a woman and an Eastern European to be Secretary-General of the United Nations, instead the choice was for another Western European. However, he is highly respected and has a great deal of experience working for the United Nations.
