Auckland’s Round the Bays fun run was held today in fine weather. It is an 8.4km course, starting in Quay St downtown Auckland, continuing round the Waitemata harbour and finishing in St Heliers Bay. More than 30,000 people took part, some as part of a team while others chose to run as individuals. Although the first person completed the course in 26 minutes, it is not a race. People taking part can run or walk. People in wheel chairs also took part.
This was the 45th year of Round the Bays. Many volunteers helped to distribute water or direct traffic. Entry fees will support five charities like child cancer.
Dunedin’s fun run is next Sunday with a choice of distance. The Christchurch City to Surf is March 19th. There is a choice of a 6km or 14 km course.
Wellington held their Round the Bays February 22nd.
