Three air force men were killed and one was seriously injured when their helicopter crashed early yesterday morning near Wellington. They were on their way to the ANZAC service in Wellington. The plan was for three air force Iroquois helicopters to fly over the ANZAC service at dawn.
The men who were killed were young. One was 33 and the other two were in their twenties.
An accident like this which kills three clever, young men is very sad but it is also a shock that it happened on ANZAC day. This is a day when we remember men from the army, navy and air force who died serving their country.
