PM to visit China

The Prime Minister, John Key, will visit China from Wednesday until Saturday. This will be his second visit to China and shows that he believes relations between the two countries are very important. China is our second-largest trading country (Australia is our largest). We also receive many migrants from China as well as international students and tourists.

John Key will meet Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing. He will discuss the idea of giving China two kiwis in exchange for two pandas for Wellington zoo. There are other matters to discuss also like helping China with food safety and the possibility of making films together. China now only allows 20 foreign films a year. If New Zealand and China made films together, these would not be called foreign films.

On Friday, John Key will host a New Zealand day at the World EXPO in Shanghai.

Question
Why does China want to become friendly with NZ?
