Peter Jackson’s Holly wood Star

Sir Peter Jackson got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a ceremony this morning (New Zealand time). His star is opposite the Dolby Theatre where the Academy Awards ceremony is always held. It has his name in the middle. He walked down a red carpet to a stage while fans cheered. He was supported by a number of actors from his movies. The actor who played Gollum made a speech.

Peter Jackson said he walked down the Walk of Fame when he was 12 years old but never imagined that he would join other famous movie people with his own star on that walk. The star has his name in the middle. If you visit Hollywood, you can walk along that famous walk and read the names.

Sir Peter Jackson has been nominated for 9 Academy Awards and has won three Academy Awards. He won Best Director in 2003 for the first Lord of the Rings movie. He directed all three Lord of the Rings, all three Hobbit movies and King Kong. These were all made in New Zealand. He started making horror movies when he was in his 20s, but his first international success was the movie Heavenly Creatures, set in Christchurch.

The last Hobbit movie opens in the US next week.

Note: “In his 20s” is a useful way to give an approximate age e.g. in his teens, in her 30s
