New Zealand’s international arts festival, WOMAD will be held this weekend in New Plymouth. The festival is being staged in Pukekura Park, which is one of New Zealand’s most wonderful parks. WOMAD starts on Friday night, and concert-goers are encouraged to wear fancy dress for this first, opening night. The festival will run through to Sunday night. There are seven stages for performances from all around the world.
Tickets cost $295 for one adult to attend the full three-day festival. There is a warning out that people are selling fake tickets, and you should buy tickets from the WOMAD New Zealand website here.
The festival is alcohol-free, so you can’t bring alcohol into the area, but you can bring food. It promises to be a family-friendly event as there are arts and crafts workshops as well as performances for children.
There is an extensive campsite nearby and you can buy separate tickets to camp there through the WOMAD website. Basic camping at the festival costs $80 per person per night but children with their families can camp for free.
There are a number of special camping villages inside the festival area. If you want to, you can camp in the tepee village. The smallest tepee will sleep two people, and costs $715 for the weekend. If this is too rough for you, there is always glamping where two people can stay in a luxury camp ground for $1,485. Here tents are carpeted and lit. They have inner sprung mattresses and are close to kitchen and bathroom facilities.
