Rugby World Cup on TV again

There has been another surprise change to which TV channel will show the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

Now TVNZ, TV3 and Maori TV will all share in filming and showing the games. Maori TV will be the main channel but other channels will also have a share of the games. The Prime Minister, John Key, decided that it was not a good idea for government money to go to TVNZ to win against Maori TV, which also has government money. He said the only winner would be the International Rugby Board because competition between channels would push the price up.

There will be 48 games in the world cup but the games that most New Zealanders will watch are the games with the All Blacks, and the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final game. We do not yet know which channel will televise the final.
